Wampler Euphoria Overdrive Pedal
Wampler’s goal when designing the Euphoria Overdrive pedal was to create an anti-pedal. To create a drive pedal that didn’t sound like it was a pedal. Something that would provide the tone, feeling and dynamism you might expect from an amp that one would typically have to remortgage their house to afford. A lofty goal to be sure but one that was fully realised with the Euphoria.
An Amp In Pedal’s Clothing
The Euphoria’s ability to provide a really dynamic, fully-fledged tone one might expect from an amplifier is quite miraculous. The secret key to unlock that potential is largely down to the pre-gain bass control which Wampler say “gives the tone a fatness that a regular EQ stack cannot give you”. It also adds to the tone a really realistic, amp-like, warmth and sustain.
Another key feature of the Euphoria was to have it respond to the guitar’s volume control as a valve amp would. Even with a fairly substantial amount of gain dialled in, you can still clean the pedal up by rolling back the volume on your guitar. This is a key, recognisable feature of high-quality valve amps and something the Euphoria does a scarily good job of replicating.
It’s a fantastic choice for organic, amp-like tones with a dizzying amount of flexibility and control. You can dial in smooth, singing tones along with gritty, snarling, crunchy tones with ease and trust that they will sound and feel like you’re playing through a living, breathing valve amplifier.
