The K400 is a unique model from Kawai, that is based on the popular K300 model but with cabinet features of the premium K800 model. The other key difference to note is that the K400 is manufactured in Japan, where there is access to the finest materials and craftmanship, whereas the K300 is produced in Indonesia.
Introduced into the UK market in 2020, the K400 is a beautifully designed model that shares many features with the popular K300. The K400 is manufactured in Japan, and therefore bridges the gap between the Indonesian K300 and taller Japanese K500 nicely.

Tapered Spruce Soundboard
Produced from straight-grained, quarter-sawn solid spruce, Kawai’s soundboards are tapered to increase surface area, maximising the resonance and tonal richness of the instrument. The soundboard design and materials enable the piano to produce a vibrant, clear sound with impressive sustain and dynamic range.
Cabinet Design
Kawai’s K400 Model is a traditional upright piano that borrows design cues from Kawai’s grand piano models. As well as the composers’ music desk, the piano gains a grand piano-style fallboard. The design of the music desk means that sound can escape from the front of the cabinet and give a more immersive experience to the player.
