Gibson SG Standard; Heritage Cherry

Gibson SG Standard Heritage Cherry Electric Guitar

Part of Gibsons ‘Modern Collection’, the new Gibson SG Standard gives the authentic looks and features of the vintage SGs of the 60s but with a slight modern twist in the pickup department as well as a wonderfully comfortable Rounded Neck profile.

The full-face black scratchplate and chrome hardware are as eye-catching as they are functional. It comes perfectly set up with 10-46 gauge strings and comes with a premium soft shell case. It's available in the classic Heritage Cherry as well as a beautiful Ebony finish.

With a bound Rosewood fingerboard with acrylic trapezoid inlays, this really is an exceptional American made electric guitar at an exceptional price.

Ready For Anything

The SG Standard is ready for anything. It is regarded as one of the most versatile electrics ever made.

Whether you play rock, pop, soul, blues, funk, metal, jazz or even gospel. The SG will have you covered. Incredibly lightweight and easy to handle and still full of sustain and bite.

Long Tenon

The Gibson SG Standard features a long tenon 19th fret joint. The shorter tenon joint of the early SGs can pose several issues to the guitar, particularly in regards to the strength and robustness to the neck.

Gibson introduced the long tenon neck joint to SGs in the early 70s and it has been used ever since. Not only does it strengthen the neck join so that you have a more stable and reliable instrument but it also increased the amount of wood to wood contact in the neck pocket. This actually helps increase the sustain and gives a slightly bigger tone.

490 Pickups

Described by Gibson as the ‘Modern Classic’, the 490 humbucker pickups take the foundational tone of beloved PAF pickup but tweaks the classic design for the modern player. Players today like gain and lots of it.

The trouble with the original PAF design was the open air space in the pickup. It's this air space that actually helps cause microphonic feedback problems, specifically when used with tons of gain or a very loud gigging amp. The 490 pickups are wax potted so that there is no air space whatsoever.

Another problem modern players also find with traditional styled humbuckers is the fact that they only have 2 conductor wires. People love and need versatility and therefore want humbuckers that they can coil-split for a single-coil sound. That means they need a 4 conductor pickup.

The 490 pickups give you this option. The 490 pickups also give you a slight increase in the upper midrange to help you cut through the mix more as well as push your amp even harder.
